Passage: 1 Chronicles 4:9-10
You must pray in pain.
9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother named him Jabez saying, “Because I bore him with pain.”
You must pray with passion.
10 Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would bless me indeed
You must pray with purpose.
10. . .and enlarge my border,
He was praying for enlarged opportunities.
He was praying for enlarged impact.
He was praying for enlarged influence.
You must pray for His presence.
10. . .and that Your hand might be with me,
His Hand is indicative of
His presence
His power
His promptings
His peace
His prospering
You must pray for protection.
10. . .and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!”
We see the perils of ministry success.
Potential for pride
Potential for presumption
We see a plea for deliverance from temptation.
We see a protection from deception.
10. . .And God granted him what he requested.
