Passage: John 8:31-32
Jesus declares that truth comes from His Word.
31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Jesus declares that life is knowing Him.
17:1 Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You ,2 even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. 3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
Jesus gives liberty through the truth of His Word.
John 8:32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. . .36 So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
Luke 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.
Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
Galatians 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free. . .
Jesus provides joy for people in Himself.
13 “But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves.
John 15:11 These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,. . .
Jesus prays for unity among believers.
20 “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word ;21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me .22 “The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.
Unity is modeled in the Godhead.
21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You
Unity connects us to the Godhead.
...that they also may be in Us
Unity reflects glory to God.
22 “The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one
Unity testifies and empowers the Great Commission.
21. . .so that the world may believe that You sent Me
23. . .so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.
